The Farmers House

The Farmers House: A Place Where Exceptional Farmers Live, Work, Play and Grow

The Farmers House is a place where young adults with disabilities can live, work, play, and grow. We're located in the historic Vaughn's Orchard between Platte City and Weston, MO.

The Farmers House is the combined dream of Peaches and David Cunningham for their son John David, and Suzanne and Alan Zimmerman for their daughter Anna. The two families met at preschool for children with developmental disabilities.

Every parent hopes that the future includes a safe environment for their child’s individual needs and a fulfilling and valued lifestyle. The idea of a working farm where children, youth and young adults could live, work, play and grow (see video) took shape and the process of learning as much as possible about existing farm or ranch communities for individuals with developmental disabilities was undertaken.

The Farmers House is run by mostly volunteers, many of them being parents (audio) of the “farmers” that work there.

About The Project:

This is the final project for Steven Youngblood’s CA324 course, Advance Multimedia Productions. With personally knowing many of the "farmers" and their families from school, this topic was a perfect choice. I know how hard many of these "farmers" have worked over the years to develop their social and fine motor skills.
